The Fauna | Eiders - Gift Kit

As the Vega islands rose from the receeding water level, both animals and humans settled. The people living there soon saw the value in providing better lives for the eider ducks. By harvesting kelp, and building nests for the ducks, they created a safer habitat for the ducks, allowing the species to thrive. This in turn allowed the people to harvest the world famous eiderdown. The unique symbiosis between them created warmth and dry softness, from a wet, cold and hard place.
