God jul and the winter solstice.

With the year coming to an end, it opens up the mind to thinking about new challenges or ways to manage your wellbeing and approach to life.

Christmas is approaching, just around the corner. Time to light the candles, heat up the glögg and enjoy some pepparkakor (ginger snaps) and get into the Christmas mood.

Although for some Christmas decorations can seem commercial and maybe a little tacky, they do have a role to play.

Those decorations keep the dark at bay, by putting up electrical candlesticks in your windows, arranging the Christmas tree lights in the lounge or in the garden, and hanging tinsel from the tree, doors or windows – we are all adding light and festive spirit to what can be a cold, dark time.

We have passed now the midwinter solstice, on 21 December, from now onwards, ever so gradually the days will begin to get lighter.

The winter solstice, also known as midwinter, occurs when one of the Earth's poles has its maximum tilt away from the Sun. It happens twice yearly, once in each hemisphere (Northern and Southern).

The winter solstice is the day with the shortest period of daylight and longest night of the year, when the sun is at its lowest in the sky. At the pole, there is continuous darkness or twilight around the winter solstice.

For the casual observer, it is difficult to see, as the sun moves too slowly or appears to stand still (the meaning of "solstice"). The term solstice is derived from the Latin scientific term solstitium. Containing the Latin sol meaning “the sun” and sistere meaning “to make stand.”

With the year coming to an end, it opens up the mind to thinking what you can do different for next year, new challenges or ways to manage your wellbeing and approach to life and how you will express yourself.

May be now is a good time to start thinking about how you express yourself with a different fragrance for your every mood or occasion.

The joy of making fragrances.

At Sprekenhus we love creating fragrances, as we enjoy the privilege of being able to blend notes chosen entirely for our pleasure and for the sake of a well scented fragrance.

But why not bring some light and a warm ambience to any room with the Sprekenhus scented candles.

Crafted from black wax and housed in a handmade glass vessel, the candle's design and rich scent adds a wonderful ambience, a gift that lights up these winter nights. Comes in a white presentation box, with a burn time of approximately 40 hours.

There are three types of scented candles:

Aurora scented candle has a fragrance that evokes a feeling of calm - a clean and crisp scent that is fresh, woody and bursting with citrus.

Balley Oud brings a deep, woodsy scent shaped with the rich aroma of a pinewood forest, with the intensity of fresh cut cedar, and the power of birch. The fragrance is wrapped up with a smoky character from the cherry and musky aromatic notes.

Courage has a fresh and fruity scent that is crisp, woody and bursting with floral notes. A delicious berry aroma, with a rich fruity fragrance, shaped with raspberry and pomegranate, with the intensity of jasmine, and the power of Lily of the valley flower, cedar and amber.

Amber Infatuation, is Sprekenhus’ most sought after signature scent, it is a roll-on perfume – convenient to use whenever you need to re-apply and packs a real punch. Packaged in a white presentation box it has a top note of: Black Pepper, Sicilian Bergamot, Wild Coriander. Mid: White Lavender, Leafy Tobacco Notes, Hedione. And bottom:  Golden Patchouli, Tonga Vanilla Beans, Creamy Musk

The Courage - Eau de Parfum is an intense blend of aromatic extracts and natural ingredients that evokes curiosity, bravery and fulfilment.

How to get your fragrances to last longer.

If you want your fragrances to last longer the first mistake to avoid is leaving them in your bathroom or in any other damp, warm places.

Heat, light, and humidity will break down the perfume and reduce its quality and the intensity of the fragrance. Instead, store them if you can in a cool, dry place away from windows and direct sunlight.

A great time to apply your fragrance is right after taking a shower or bath and before you get dressed. The moisture on your skin will help seal in the scent and help you retain its intensity for longer.

If you want a lighter scent, spray the fragrance in the air and slowly walk into the perfumed mist. The spray will distribute evenly across your body and leave you with just a hint of fragrance.

Our great interest in minimalistic and sustainable design extends to every aspect of Alexander Sprekenhus and our values.

We include only the highest quality ingredients, and well researched formulations that are presented in a product line that is both functional and beautiful to look at. And we always want our customers to have the best possible experience when they shop with Sprekenhus, which is why we do not charge for freight, we send globally at no extra cost.
